Questioning My Preschool Lesson Plan

by Lane Wattle

Children hold cellophane to their face

delighting I see red! I see blue!

and adults judge how right they are.

In high school my biology teacher asked

what colour are your eyes? Not a test,

yet I still failed. Brown, kind of green

around the edges, grey at times.

I was told to call them hazel.

Curiosity, shelved. The history of how

I came to be larger than a lesson plan.

I see tinges, blue of children losing

their oooh and hmm. I teach It’s red.

You see red. Coaching curiosity,

how do you feel when you see red?
