I Know You Do Not Exist

by Tanya Verver

I know you do not exist
And we will never meet
The rain will follow the mist
But I will hardly bleed
For you the life will go on
The death will go by
There will be no one to mourn
If many are to die
The tearful murders never stop
Another story starts
There may still remain remain a hope
Of pure useless art
And of deliverance from hell
For me and maybe you
The ringing of the final bell
So swiftly changed to mute
Two hearts to burn in useless fight
Between two polar lights
I know it, you know it too
That maybe Paula lights
Your way from hell to higher realms
Where we both live
In our half-forgotten dreams
So piercingly naive.
