Homecoming

by Ron Jevaltas

An undulating
chevron wens the dun colored
eave. A distant jay
mocks the hour. Clothed in
variegate muddy swatches,
classes war over
bragging rights, the din
of their excitement strident
as the blackbird flock
tree hopping south. All
of them rouged by amorphous
wind, goaded on by
mob desire to out

a sunless sky, and still

cheeks glowing crimson.
